About this piece
Tourmaline is a borosilicate group rather than a single species, and it is pyroelectric — warm a loose tourmaline and it develops a static charge, which is why rough parcels arrive coated in dust. This stone has been heated, standard for the material and used to lighten overly dark rough. Tourmaline is strongly pleochroic, so the depth of pink shifts depending on the angle you view it from.
